RESOURCES
MANIFEST aims to contribute to and enhance the re-imagination of Europe’s collective memory of the transatlantic trade of enslaved people. These phenomena have adversely impacted Europe, the Mediterranean basin, and Africa for millennia.
Throughout the project, research and stakeholder engagement with relevant communities will support the Artistic Journey with a solid and documented research contribution about the material and immaterial heritage and social traces of this trade, out of which an Interactive Resources Publication will result.
This page features well-documented Resources Publication outputs casting the light on how the transatlantic trade of enslaved people is a constituent element of European history. Subscribe to our newsletter and social media to be the first one to receive our materials.
RESOURCES BOOK
This publication offers a collection of texts written by historians and sociologists that delves into complex themes at the intersection of the history of the transatlantic trade of enslaved people. Covering a wide range of perspectives, it examines topics such as the influence of French West Indian music, the portrayal of Africans and West Indians in Europe during the 18th-20th centuries, the construction of ships that transported Enslaved African people, and Northern Europe’s role as traders of Enslaved African people.
Europe played a central role in the transatlantic slave trade, yet the historical narratives and their echoes in modern society remain underexplored. This collection of historical resources aims to widen the written records about colonial legacies as well as to provide a starting point for deeper discussions around decolonial processes and the act of recording and interpreting history. The publication is freely available for download and use, offering educators, researchers, and the general public an accessible resource for understanding and engaging with these important topics.
