MEET THE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE: Inês Costa
Inês Costa
Inês Costa (Viseu, 1998) has a master’s degree in Image Design and a degree in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto. Designer and audiovisual artist, she has been working with photography, video and animation, appropriation of archival materia, clippings, embroidery and oral testimonies that help her move from documentary to fiction, imagining new narrative possibilities.
Her research focuses on the role of image in the construction of narratives that make up the Portuguese collective memory, through the intersection of design and other artistic areas, trying to question images as tools in language and socio-political action. She received a grant from FCT and ID+ with the research project “Memories of Pau-preto e Ivory” during her master. Her films were part of the official selection of national festivals, including Entre-Olhares, Curtas Vila do Conde, Porto/Post/Doc and Vista Curta, in which she won the best locally produced film (2021).
Within MANIFEST Artistic Journey, Inês will work in tandem with Thiago Liberdade.
Everything in art and design is political, our research aims to make that clear and make use of our tools as designers to spread information and question hegemonic concepts that have been imposed as the "truth".
